Gas Analysis for Hydrocarbon Process Control

Finding alternative ways to improve production processes such as ammonia, ethylene and ethylene oxide is of key concern for chemical manufacturers. Leaders in hydrocarbon processing use Extrel Mass Spectrometers for fast, accurate gas analysis.

Petrochemical Applications

Ammonia / Methanol

Ammonia and Methanol are produced from natural gas, utilizing very similar techniques. Gas analysis is required at several stages of the manufacturing process to ensure efficient production control. These stages include the Natural Gas Feed, Primary Reformer, Shift Converter and Recycle Streams. The MAX300-RTG Industrial Process Mass Spectrometer can analyze all Ammonia production process streams in real-time, enabling tight control over critical parameters.

Ethylene

The production of Ethylene involves the steam cracking of hydrocarbons at extremely high temperatures. To lessen furnace downtime and maximizing efficiency, it is imperative to run an ethylene furnace as close as possible to the optimum set point. Ethylene producers have relied on Extrel Quadrupole Mass Spectrometers for decades to provide real-time process control gas analysis.

Ethylene Oxide

To maximize the production of Ethylene Oxide (EO), producers use the MAX300-RTG Industrial Process Mass Spectrometer to calculate and control several key operating parameters. Accuracy, stability and fast analysis are critical to meet EO Licensor requirements.

Hydrogen Production

Efficient Hydrogen Production requires the full composition analysis of the natural gas feed stream in less than 10 seconds. The MAX300-RTG provides fast, accurate heating-value analysis for product quality control and maximum hydrogen production revenue.

Natural Gas / BTU Petrochemical

Extrel Process Mass Spectrometers are widely used to calculate the BTU value of feed streams in Hydrocarbon and Petrochemical applications in order to optimize real-time gas mixing, burner control, and process efficiency.

Petrochemical Syngas

Typically used as a fuel source or intermediate in hydrocarbon production applications, Synthesis Gas (Syngas) compositions must be tightly controlled during processing in order to achieve high quality final products.  The MAX300-RTG Industrial Process Mass Spectrometer can measure hydrogen, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen in real-time, providing the critical data necessary to control each process unit.

Polyethylene

Polymer manufacturers continue to seek methods to increase production without compromising safety. Polyethylene producers depend on the MAX300-IG to provide real-time analysis of the reactor feed and product gases to maximize efficiency and tightly control product transitions.ith each mass loss.
