APPLICATIONS - STEEL AND METAL PROCESSING

Extrel CMS Process Gas Analyzer Used in the Metals Industry

In many steel plants a single mass spectrometer can replace multiple infrared, process gas chromatographs and thermal conductivity analyzers due to its versatility and quicker speed of analysis. The improvements in process optimization are easily seen and make the Extrel CMS mass spectrometer extremely cost effective; e.g. by improving furnace gas efficiency for an improved energy utilization strategy.

The Extrel CMS mass spectrometers also make the monitoring and controlling of Environmental emissions simpler.   The mass spectrometer is a fast, reliable and repeatable way to do monitor stack gas emissions and do fence line monitoring.  Mass spectrometers are capable of quickly measuring a wide range of components and are not limited to a few components as some instruments.  Their low detection limits and high speed acquisition make them ideal for doing ambient air monitoring.

Optimization of Vacuum Oxygen Decarburization (VOD) Steel Processing
Use of the Extrel CMS  mass spectrometer in VOD processes has allowed steel producers to optimize proper process run times and minimize fuel consumption in steel manufacturing plants.

Aluminum Processing
Leading aluminum producers have used Extrel CMS  mass spectrometers to optimize gas phase process conditions, conduct research and development of new processes, as well as used them as QA/QC tools.
